U10 Modified Rules 

Law 1. Field of Play

  • Dimensions: The field of play shall be rectangular. The length shall exceed the width.
  • Markings: Distinctive lines from 2-5 inches wide, halfway line, center circle, four corner arcs, goal area, players/coaches area, spectator viewing line (see diagram).
  • The Goals: The goals shall consist of two upright posts seven yards apart and equidistant from the corner flags. The crossbar is seven feet high.

Law 3. Number of Players

  • U10 is 6v6, one of who shall be a goalkeeper.
  • Playing time: each player must participate a minimum of 50% of total playing time.
  • Substitution are to be made on a team's throw-ins, on goal kicks and kick-offs. Substitution breaks can be requested to a referee if both coaches are in agreement.

Law 4. Players' Equipment

  • Jersey or shirt, shorts, shinguards, stockings, and footwear.

Law 5. Referee

Shall be encouraged to explain an infraction to the offending player, without undue delay of the game or showing favoritism to either team. Referee should address both teams, not an individual, while doing so.

Law 6. Duration of the Game

  • The game is to be divided into two halves 25 minutes each.
  • Half-time break shall not exceed 5 minutes.

Law 7. The Start of Play

Opponent must be 6 yards from center mark when kick-off is being taken. A goal may be scored directly from a kickoff.

NOTE: The ball is not in play until it is touched forward. The initial kicker cannot touch it a second time until another player touches it.

Law 8. Ball In and Out of Play

The ball is out of play when it has wholly crossed the goal or touchlines.

Law 9. Method of Scoring

  • The whole of ball must cross the goal line between goal posts and under the cross bar.
  • The ball cannot be thrown, carried, or intentionally propelled by hand or arm over the goal line.

Law 10. Off-Side

Conform to FIFA laws of the game.

Law 11. Fouls & Misconduct

  • All fouls will result in an INDIRECT FREE KICK - with opponent 6 yards away (see Law 12)
  • Fouls by hand: Handling the ball. Intentional holding, pushing, or striking the opponent.
  • Fouls by feet: Intentionally tripping, kicking, and jumping at the opponent
  • Fouls by body: Charging from behind, violent charging (intentional)

Law 12. Free Kicks: SHALL BE UNDER ONE TYPE ONLY

INDIRECT FREE KICK - A goal may be scored against the opposing team only if a second player of either team touches the ball.

Law 13. Penalty Kicks

No penalty kicks.

Law 14. Throw-in

  • One rethrow must be allowed if foul throw occurs.
  • Referee shall explain fault before rethrow.

Law 15. Goal Kick

  • Goal kick may be taken from any point inside the goal area - 6-yard area.
  • Opponents must be 6 yards away from the ball.
  • A goal may be scored directly from a goal kick.

Law 16. Corner Kick

  • May be taken from any point inside the corner arcs.
  • Opponents must be 6 yards away from the ball.

Law 17. Common Sense

  • Do not make rules that will result in boredom, bureaucracy, and losing sight of your purpose as an adult.
